Entertainment & Music Tidbits For Today…

Madonna‘s in the news, but this time, because of some 22 items that she was not aware had gone missing. Those items were “acquired” by former friend, art curator and overnight guest and were going to be a part of an online auction. A New York Judge has temporarily halted the auction which included a number of personal items including Madonna’s hairbrush and a love/break up letter from the late rapper, Tupac Shakur (a letter which was expected to fetch over $400k!).

Cyndi Lauper and Sir Rod Stewart will be in the area performing tonight. Cyndi’s new album “Detour” features many Country superstars including Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson, and is a wonderful tribute to many Classic Country Standards.

✪ Many Game of Thrones fans didn’t exactly give two thumbs up to Ed Sheeran‘s cameo this past Sunday, even to the extent that there was so much negativity Ed Sheeran shut down his Twitter account for a brief bit. His feelings about Twitter have been complicated saying, “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely,” he said a month ago. “I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.”

Lady Gaga, coming to Ed’s side on Instagram, and reminding us of some very important things had this to say, “What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED @teddysphotos deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean. No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity.”

Birthdays for today… Anthony Edwards, who was Tom Cruise’s wingman in Top Gun, also starred in Revenge of the Nerds, Fasttimes at Ridgemont High, and a longtime staple on tv’s ER. A long time ago, Anthony starred in a movie that I bought the soundtrack to back in ’85, Gotcha. ♥

Brian May of Queen, is 70 today. Brian along with Adam Lambert, and the band are currently on tour, and will be hitting Washington DC on July 31. Coincidentally, on July 19th, 1980, Queen scored their third UK No.1 album with ‘The Game’, featuring the single ‘Another One Bites The Dust’.

And Benedict Cumberpatch is celebrating 41. So many so gaga over this guy!

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be descending upon Baltimore this coming Sunday night for the 40th Anniversary Tour, and much to my chagrin, tickets are sold out!! Anyone have a miracle?

♪ 1975, Paul McCartney and Wings went to No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Listen To What The Man Said’, his fourth US No.1, and No.6 hit in the UK, (the track features Tom Scott playing the saxophone solo). It would go on to sell a million copies in America and reach No.6 in the UK. Wings also had the US No.1 album chart with ‘Venus And Mars’. Paul McCartney’s fourth No.1 album since The Beatles.

♪ 1986, Genesis went to No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Invisible Touch’. The bands former lead singer Peter Gabriel was at No.2 with ‘Sledgehammer’.

♪ 1987, Bruce Springsteen played his first ever show behind the Iron Curtain when he appeared in East Berlin in front of 180,000 people. The show was broadcast on East German TV.
