Here’s help to get you back into the “routine”

10 Morning Routine Tips That Can Transform Your Day

Ok, I’ll confess. I am a night owl. A dyed in the wool, baffled by people who go to bed at 9, night owl.

The older I get, I think, surely at some point, I’ll start to get tired at about 9 or 10, and be in bed asleep. Nope. I’m an 11, 12 or 1 girl. And, I like sleep… if I can, I’ll hug that pillow until 9 or 10 in the morning easy!

However, now that school is back in, we all have to reset our circadian clocks, and get used to (and dare I say like?) getting up early? I mean, when the need calls, I have gotten up at 3:30a or 4a or 5a, but if not, I am a snoozing.

That said, with a little modification, in both our bedtime and wake up routines, we can not only (they say) become much more bright eyed and bushy tailed (like those confounding early birds), we can even get our day off on the right foot!

The below was something I came across in this morning’s news, and thought I would share for all of us. Here’s to (as she raises her third big ole mug o’ coffee) us transforming our mornings into brilliant sunshine and cheerful mornings! ~ Mary

Those suggestions… read on!

Whether you’re a morning person who wakes up chipper and ready to face the day or a night person who gets out of bed cranky and dragging, there are some things you can do as part of your morning routine to help you feel relaxed and ready for the day ahead.

  1. Go for a quick walk — Natural light resets your internal clock for a new day, giving you an energy boost, and walking also helps keep you healthy.
  2. Make your bed — It’s a small thing, but it gives you a sense of accomplishment that sets the tone for the day.
  3. Drink a glass of water — Start the day hydrated.
  4. Read a book — Begins the day with a calm, quiet activity before its stresses start.
  5. Write down “three good things” — It’s usually suggested to do this at night, writing down three good things from the day, which has been found to increase happiness. But you can do it in the morning, looking back on the day before.
  6. Get some caffeine — That alertness boost you get from caffeine will last for five to six hours.
  7. Do a tiny task you’d otherwise dread all day — You won’t have to thing about it during the day and will come home to a more relaxed evening.
  8. Clear your mind — Meditation has been found to have many benefits.
  9. Plan out your goals for the day — Make a specific list of realistic goals and how you’re going to achieve them, which increases your chances of success at getting them done.
  10. Talk to someone you love –– Social connection is good for our health. Spend a few minutes talking to a family member or friend, in person if they live with you or by phone if they don’t.
